In addition to Audacity, I am absolutely head over heels for Descript, a podcast editing and transcription tool. Descript – The best Podcast Editing Companion We also record our podcast in Audacity when we are recording in the same room. It’s free, has a ton of functions, even though we are only using it for the bare minimum of what it can do. Podcast Editing can seem daunting, but YouTube is your friend! We like Audacity for editing. Use whatever you have on hand! Podcast Editing Tools We don’t find that you need anything fancy. If you host a podcast with guests, remote recording, or if you just want to be able to check your sound levels, you’ll need headphones. We podcast from our closets for best sound quality! Headphones for Podcasting We like the Focusrite Scarlett Solo (3rd Gen) USB Audio Interface with Pro Tools and we used this video to learn how to use it with Audacity. Not to mention we vastly prefer the dynamic of recording in the same room whenever we can. This was our biggest investment in the podcast, but it’s worth it for the sound quality we get. If you are recording with two microphones in the same location you’ll need an audio mixer. Here’s the pop screen we use! Audio Interface We also recommend a pop screen to attach to your microphone to help eliminate plosives from your speech. While we find the XLR connection to give us a slightly crisper sound quality, we are very happy with the USB connection especially when we record remotely. We have had the opportunity to use them both with the USB and XLR connections. We each have one of these mics, and we’ve been very happy with them. This microphone is affordable, coming in at under $100, and has both USB and XLR connections. Fortunately, we were in the right place at the right time when we got a recommendation for the Samson Q2u. We read so many microphone reviews that our eyes started to cross. Podcasting Equipment we Love Our favorite podcasting microphone This post! We love these budget-friendly podcasting tools!
